      Divorce Records, Lawrence County Arkansas;

      William Jackson vs Mary Jackson, Filed 17 Aug 1866. William Jackson states that on 8 or 9 Feb 1861 he married Mary Guynn in Lawrence County and they lived together until the summer of 1862 when William went into military service in Oct 1862, William's group went to the extreme western and southern portion of Arkansas. He served there until the middle of July 1865; he did not see his wife from Oct 1862 until Jul 1865. When he returned home, he found his wife pregnant and refused to live with her, and in Oct 1865 she gave birth to a child. He does not know who the father is but it is not him. He said that Mary now lives somewhere in Missouri. His sworn statement is sign: William R. (X, his mark) Jackson.

      The two children that were born of Mary O'Guinn Jackson in 1865 and 1869 were given the last name of Jackson because at the time, that was their mother's last name, not because William Jackson was their father. William Butler was conceived while William Jackson was at war. Cynthia was conceived in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where her mother was living, as proven by 1868 Missouri census and stated in the 1866 divorce record by William Jackson. It is stated, quite plainly, in the divorce record, that William wanted nothing to do with Mary when he returned home.
